The eWay bill format is pre-determined as per applicable GST rules. Details included in first section of the Eway Bill are as below:
In the GST eWay bill format, the above details are followed by Part A and Part B. Part A of the document contains the following details:
GSTIN (GST Identification Number) of Supplier
Part B of the eWay Bill format is to be filled out only if goods are being transported beyond 50 km distance and the supply is carried out beyond state/union territory border. Details in Part B of the eWay bill are:

The following are the steps involved in generating the eWay bill online:
Step 1. Go to the website ewaybill.nic.in and click on E-way bill registration as shown below.
If you know what GSTIN is but can't wrap your head around the registration process online, feel free to visit the Seva Kendra.
Step 3. After validating OTP, on the subsequent page, you can click on Generate. Then enter the details of goods being supplied including date of supply, place of supply, value of goods, mode of transport, etc.
Step 4. Once all the details have been filled out, the eWay Bill is generated with a unique EWB number and QR code that can be saved digitally or printed out. Once printed it can be used to transport goods from the selected source to the destination.
In order to generate eWay bill by SMS, the user has to first register for the SMS service by logging into the e-Way Bill portal. Only a single number can be registered per GSTIN for SMS eWay Bill service. To generate e-Way bill via SMS, the request has to be sent to the number – 7738299899.
The SMS format used to generate the eWay Bill using mobile SMS is as below:

The explanations of different parts of the SMS are as below:
EWBG – Request for generation of e-Way Bill
OSUP – Outward Supply of Goods
29AABBX0980K1ZK – GSTIN of the recipient
713216 – Pincode where the shipment is to be delivered
5846 – Invoice/Bill number generated by the supplier
28/03/2023 – Date on which invoice/bill of sale was generated
75000.00 – Value of goods as per invoice/bill of sale
1001 – Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN) code of goods being transported
294 – Approximate distance of transport of goods
BR12AN1234 – Registration number of vehicle used to transport the goods
